Gorky c. 1936c
This manuscript is a typed, edited, and abridged version of Gorky 1936 (see Gorky 1936 for additional information). It is one of two known abridged versions (see Gorky c. 1936d), both of which were presumably prepared by the WPA/FAP for public relations purposes. Both texts are substantially different from Gorky 1936. The difference between the two abridged versions occurs in their fourth and fifth paragraphs.
A copy of this manuscript, with annotations in an unknown hand, is located in the Dorothy C. Miller papers, Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. (Box 20, Folder 11). An unannotated copy of this manuscript, with the addition of two paragraphs of introduction by someone other than Gorky, is located in the Arshile Gorky Research Collection (1936–1993), Francis Mulhall Achilles Library, Archives, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (Box 4). The two paragraphs of introduction are identical to the third and fourth paragraphs in [Unknown] c. 1936.
See Supplemental Materials below for PDFs of both copies (annotated and unannotated) of this abridged manuscript.
