Along with 1941b New York, the exhibition was organized in association with the American Museum of Natural History, the Brooklyn Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Committee on Art of the Office of Nelson A. Rockefeller, the Coordinator of Commercial and Cultural Relations between the American Republics. The exhibition was divided into three groups, two of which included work by Gorky (1941a and 1941b MoMA), that traveled to different cities in South America.
