The drawing is located on the front flyleaf in Hans Graber, Piero della Francesca: Sixty-eight Plates (Basel: Benno Schwabe, 1922). On the other side of the same flyleaf is D4079.

Notes

The drawing is compositionally related to two paintings by Gorky, both of which were titled Still Life during his lifetime and dated to 1929 by him (see related work). The paintings were included in the artist's first solo museum exhibition held at the San Francisco Museum of Art in August 1941 (see 1941 San Fransisco).
